To begin using FactFinder, you must install one or more BlueStripe Collectors in your environment and then install the FactFinder Console on a Windows workstation, server, or laptop. Either install the Collectors first so that they are discovered the first time FactFinder is started, or allow automatic discovery to find them later. Refer to Installing Collectors and Collector Discovery and Licenses to learn how to add Collector discovery rules and manage Collector connections.
The FactFinder 3.0 and 3.1 Console can be installed on the following versions of Microsoft® Windows®:
On Windows Vista and Windows 7, FactFinder must be run as an Administrator. Logs, configuration changes, and storage are written to the Program Files or Program Files (x86) directory, which requires Administrator permissions to write files.
FactFinder system requirements:
The FactFinder Console requires 102 MB of local disk storage, but additional disk space is required for data storage and snapshot files (see Storage Settings and Snapshots for more information).
The FactFinder Console installer will prompt you for a license file. Be sure the license file is available on the machine before starting the installation.
To install FactFinder, use the following steps:
